Whip one out each weekend, fill in the week's meals and important activities and post on the fridge. Then use that to build your weekly grocery list. You will be totally prepared for the week and know at all times what comes next.

(Weekly Grocery List)
Each week we buy similar things at the grocery store. So why re-write your list from scratch each time? The trick is to make a shopping list with your most-purchased items (these are mine) and then make 52 copies for the year. Post one to the fridge each week. Simply circle the basics and write in anything else at the bottom. The entire household is now responsible to jot down what they need. No more "hey you forgot such and such!" Your polite response is now "Did you put it on the list?"
